What is Compounding?  Compounding is the practice of customizing or creating medications that meet the unique needs of our patients and their health care providers.

Compounding is used when commercially manufactured products don't fit the patient's needs or are not available.  For example, small enough doses may not be commercially available for a child or small animal or in a form they can tolerate.  
Common dosing forms include TRANSDERMAL PRODUCTS, CAPSULES, SUPPOSITORIES, TROCHES, LOLLIPOPS, LOTIONS and CREAMS.  In short, compounding: 

Allows for the introduction of more palatable scents and
    flavors (Dogs adore our liver flavor)
Can create formulas free of dyes and other potential
     allergens 
Can provide medications not yet available or no longer
     available
Creates a three way partnership between the prescriber, 
     patient, and pharmacist that ensures patients receive
     the best possible solutions to difficult medication
     problems
